Text to MP3: short script voiced as an MP3 recording

Sami Can Tandogdu ·2 min read ·

Tighten up the script before generating a recording for playback. Listen to what was generated. Check for things that were left out of the generated recording.

Write for ears instead of eyes

Breaking up long sentences for reading on screen can result in very awkward audio. It’s better to write for audio in the first place. Spell out initialisms (abreviations that are also words) the first time they appear in script. State the main point of a section near the beginning and then support it with details. A very short update might consist of an introduction, three points and a conclusion.

It’s also worth reading the script out loud to see if you need to start again from the beginning of the sentence. Identify any unusual names and terms and make a note to listen out for them when reviewing the recording.

Preview, then generate

Use the short narration that the Text to Podcast app creates as a preview for the short script you wrote for the update. Review the script preview with the Text to Podcast app before you generate an MP3 with ElevenLabs. Use the script preview to make sure you caught everything including a missing point or an awkward transition. Identify any wording that changes the meaning of the original source.

First, play the audio to hear for yourself. Listen to the audio while following the script of the text to ensure all the information, such as numbers, special names, and key pauses, have been included correctly.

Know what the MP3 is for

Note that an MP3 generated from your text is a draft (for a podcast episode, internal briefing, etc.) and not a finished podcast feed (which would require proper naming of the file, keeping a reviewed script with the audio, proper credits, music licensing, etc.).

Work in a short cycle: write for listening, preview the words, generate audio and verify the recording. The earlier Recurse Text to Podcast app has retired. Browse current task examples for the private tool workflow and use this guide to review your narration.
